How to Play
Cut out the bugs and place them around your home, yard, or area you are playing the game. Kids will move along the path, finding one bug after another. When the child finds a bug, they complete a movement or activity that matches that bug.
You can use the activity as a full movement game, a quick warm-up, or a fun home practice activity.
Examples of bug movements:
Dragonfly
Flap your arms like wings.
Grasshopper
Jump like a grasshopper.
Ant
Crawl low like an ant.
Bee
Buzz around like a bee.
Caterpillar
Wiggle like a caterpillar.
Ladybug
Walk on your hands and feet.
Butterfly
Flutter your arms like butterfly wings.
Snail
Move slowly like a snail.
For younger children, keep the instructions simple and model each movement first.
For children who need more of a challenge, add counting, such as “jump 5 times,” “buzz for 10 seconds,” or “crawl to the next bug.”
For speech practice, have the child say the bug’s name, make a bug sound, or describe how the bug moves.
For fine motor practice, have the child point to each bug, trace the path with their finger, or write in the name of each bug on the bug map after completing the movement.
For sensory regulation, encourage slow movements for calming or bigger movements for alerting, depending on the child’s needs.
