Team Feature: Francisco Segura, PT

This month, we are featuring one of our excellent Physical Therapists, Francisco Segura.

Francisco earned a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Cal State LA in 2011 before continuing his education, achieving a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Touro University in 2014. When he began working in this profession, Francisco never thought he would be interested in working with children. His plan included working at a hospital or rehabilitation center, but soon he needed more of a challenge. Fortunately, Francisco was able to find a facility where he worked with a middle-aged population that allowed him to work on higher-level activities with some of his patients. From there, he had the opportunity to work with adults as well as pediatrics.

The transition made Francisco uncomfortable at first because he didn’t have much experience working with children and pediatrics was not the path he intended to take. Francisco stuck with it because he enjoyed the challenge and it proved to be very fun! After that, Francisco was presented with the opportunity to become Director of Rehab as the facility grew to specialize in neurorehab, which he embraced as well. In time, it became apparent to him that he preferred to be more hands-on in his work. It was then Francisco decided to combine his passion for neurodevelopment and pediatrics and start working at an outpatient facility. Although he enjoyed that experience, Francisco was looking for a place that provided more continuity of care.

“I am now thrilled to be a part of the Tilton’s Therapy team where I will be able to follow my passion and the continued development of my patients in the home environment.”

Originally, Francisco was drawn toward Physical Therapy when he would accompany his aunt to her appointments and help with interpretation. He liked that the Physical Therapist would listen and spend more time providing patient care. Francisco most enjoys helping his patients find balance and a stable base in which their mobility can flourish. He says, “the balance does not always have to be physical. It can also be cognitive and emotional.”

Giving back to his profession, Francisco has been a clinical instructor to four students. He also likes to help new graduates by helping to ease any worries they may have as they transition from school into their new careers.

In his spare time, Francisco enjoys spending time outside going for long walks or gardening. He also likes to host dinner for a friend or two, although he is not keen on big gatherings. Francisco also pursues knowledge in philosophy, sciences, investing, and finance. Spending time with his family is another activity he makes time for in his schedule. For the last ten years, Francisco has lived in Henderson, NV although he is originally from Los Angeles, CA. He likes that there are lots of parks and walking trails in the city and has made some close friendships during his time in Nevada.

“I am passionate about life! I have been through some rough times and have learned to find positivity. Starting a family and working with kids also makes me passionate about the future.”
