Therapist Feature: Susan Ray, COTA
Occupational Therapist Assistant Susan Ray is our featured team member this month! Susan has worked in this industry for over nine and a half years with a total of six and a half years working with adults and three with children. Previously, Susan worked part time with CCSD as a substitute teacher for special needs students. She received her education in Las Vegas at CSN and UNLV.
When asked what theory or aspect Susan likes most about her profession she replied,
“I love seeing progression with children or adults who might have struggled with various daily activities that most of us take for granted. I feel that being an occupational therapist assistant allows me to be able to work on my own but yet have the ability to get ideas on a daily basis from others.”
Susan has worked in settings outside of our mobile outpatient setting with Tilton’s Therapy, such as adult home health facilities, hospitals, and adult nursing homes. She has experience working with individuals with spinal cord injuries, strokes, head injuries, breathing concerns, blood disorders, autism, ADHD, wound patients, and many others. Although Susan does not have a specific area of interest, she enjoys learning things every day. Susan also appreciates that her profession allows her to make her own schedule.
Throughout her career, Susan has given back to her profession through training students. She loves teaching others what she personally does in work each day and how goals are met. Her students take home an education that they may have never thought about and she describes how it is a good feeling to educate someone about what she does in her profession.
Susan has lived in Las Vegas for 28 years. She and her sister were recruited from the east coast to open a hotel on the strip. Originally, Susan lived in upstate New York. She and her family love to travel and enjoy going to concerts. One of her biggest passions is kickboxing and Susan has been a kickboxer for ten years. Susan is passionate about “family, friends, and kickboxing!”
Thank you Susan, for your awesome work and dedication your clients and students!
