Garden Grab Game
A Spring-Themed Movement & Matching Activity for Kids.
Encourage kids to move, match, and think while exploring a fun spring garden setting. This activity builds motor coordination, visual scanning, and early matching and categorization skills.
You’ll Need:
Printable game board (garden scene pages - available for download in our app)
Cut-out item cards (rake, tulip, carrot, etc.)
Scissors
Optional: dice or spinner
How to Play:
Option 1: Simple Grab & Match
Hide the cut-out garden item pieces around the room or play area, or shuffle them and present them as a deck.
Give the child the garden boards with location pictures.
As they find each item, they match it to the board to which it belongs.
Encourage naming the object and describing it (e.g., “This is a carrot—it grows in the dirt!”).
Option 2: Movement Game
Add action prompts to each hidden item (e.g., “Buzz like a bee,” “Flap your arms like a bird”).
When a child finds a piece, they perform the action before placing it on the board.
Great for group play—kids take turns or race to complete their garden.
Optional 3: Sorting & Categorizing
After completing the board, have kids sort the pieces into groups like:
Things that grow vs. animals
Above ground vs. below ground
Tools vs. nature items
Skills Supported:
Occupational Therapy (OT): Gross motor skills, fine motor (with handling pieces), visual motor integration, body coordination
Speech Therapy (SLP): Vocabulary building, categorization, expressive language
Physical Therapy (PT): Movement exploration, spatial awareness
