Pipe Cleaner Sculptures

This simple activity emphasizes fine motor and concentration skills, while also promoting creativity. With no mess and just a few low-cost supplies you may already have around your home, the sky is the limit for kids to create!

You’ll Need:

  • Colored or plain straws

  • Pipe cleaners (in various colors)

  • Scissors

  • Ruler (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cut straws into different lengths, either randomly or by measuring with a ruler for accuracy.

  2. Have your child thread the pipe cleaners through the straw pieces, bending and shaping them to create sculptures or figures.

  3. Encourage the child to combine different colors of straws and pipe cleaners to make their creations vibrant and visually appealing.

  4. To add an extra challenge, ask kids to create a specific shape or figure with the materials provided. For example, they can make 3D geometric shapes, animals, or letters. You can also incorporate additional supplies to create new designs, such as popsicle sticks or googly eyes.

This activity helps to develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and visual-spatial skills while fostering problem-solving and creativity.
