Story Stones
This activity is a great way to work on and improve language development, articulation, and listening skills. Find this activity and many others in our app!
You’ll need:
Small, smooth stones or pebbles (enough for several images)
Provided story stone printables of objects, animals, and scenes
Glue or clear adhesive paper
A small cloth bag or container
Instructions:
Glue the images to the stones or cover them with clear adhesive paper or tape.
Optional: use colored markers or paint to add decorative borders or additional details to the story stones.
Make sure kids understand the pictures on the stones and can say the name of each object, animal, or scene.
Start your story! Have each child pick one stone from the bag or container without looking. The goal is to begin a story using the image on the stone.
Have children pick additional stones one by one, incorporating each new image into their story. Encourage the creation of connections between the items, using descriptive language, and developing a story that has a beginning, middle, and end.
Make the activity more interactive by taking turns picking stones and contributing sentences or ideas to the story. This encourages listening skills and cooperative storytelling.
