Team Feature: Meghan Poach, OT
This month we are highlighting our talented Occupational Therapist, Meghan Poach!
Meghan always knew she wanted to work in healthcare, originally thinking she would be a nurse. After shadowing individuals in multiple professions, she grew to love Occupational Therapy because it combines many of her strengths and allows her to help children achieve their goals. Meghan began working as an Occupational Therapist in 2019 after graduating with a doctoral degree from Northern Arizona University. Initially, her main focus since graduating has been working in the school setting but was excited to begin working with children in their natural setting/home environment when she joined the Tilton’s Therapy team.
When asked what theory or aspect she appreciates most about her profession, Meghan responded, “OT gives you the opportunity to combine play, creativity, evidence-based research, and intuition to support a child’s life goals and passions.”
Meghan gained experience working in the outpatient setting as a part of her doctoral residency. Within that, she was able to help young children access their environment and play while learning to drive power chairs.
Throughout her career, Meghan has been given multiple opportunities while living in Arizona to provide guest lectures for Occupational Therapy students about pediatrics. She also provided counseling during didactic scenarios at the university level during that time.
A native of Scottsdale, AZ, Meghan relocated to Reno, NV, where she lives with her husband (who also works as an Occupational Therapist) and her two wonderful pups, Winnie and Fritz. Meghan loves to travel, spend time with her husband and dogs, spend time hiking or at the lake, and take on complete DIY projects and home fixer-upper projects. She enjoys anything that gets them outside in the beautiful Reno weather.
Meghan’s passion is children because she considers herself to be a kid at heart.
“I love making weird noises, using my creativity, and helping kids enjoy their lives as best as she can. She is always looking for new and fun ideas for her kids to work on their skills, and I can’t wait to get started with your family!”
