Team Feature: Chrise Layng

For this month, we are featuring one of our exceptional Speech-Language Pathologists, Chrise Layng!

Chrise received a Master’s of Education from the University of Georgia-Athens and a bachelor of science from the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign. She has worked in other settings aside from providing mobile therapy in the natural environment, including pediatric hospitals in San Diego and Chicago. In addition to this experience, Chrise operated her own private practice and worked in school districts. She has worked in a similar position for approximately 25 years!

Originally, Chrise was drawn to Speech Therapy because the idea of helping people of any age communicate was appealing to her. Evaluating children and determining what their strengths and challenges are, then proceeding to figure out how to best meet those challenges is the aspect Chrise most appreciates about her profession. She is passionate about finding a way for someone to communicate, whether it is through gestures, pictures, vocalizations, and/or a device. Chrise is passionate to find a way in for all!

Over the years, Chrise has supervised many graduate interns as well as clinical fellows. Aside from supervision, she serves as chair of the speech department in her current school district.

“I love to mentor young clinicians but I find that they teach me a great deal as well.”

Chrise spends her time away from her profession with her spouse and five children. Her kids range in age from 14 to 20, and she loves family time! She and her family enjoy going swimming, watching sporting events, eating at restaurants, and playing cards.

Chrise herself came from a bigger family as the youngest of ten children and was born in Rockford, IL. She has lived in Las Vegas, NV on and off for her whole life. She appreciated the people, the familiar places, and the proximity of her family. Chrise has also lived in Athens, GA, San Diego, CA, and Chicago, IL. Some of her other hobbies include reading, gardening, cooking, baking new recipes, and spending time with her dogs.

Thank you Chrise, for your passion and dedication to your profession as a Speech-Language Pathologist!
