Therapist Feature: Megan Trentman, SLP

This month our featured therapist is Megan Trentman, speech-language pathologist!

Megan has worked as a speech-language pathologist almost five years, one year with Tilton’s Therapy this summer. Originally, Megan always knew she wanted to help people and work with children. She took one course in her undergraduate studies in communication sciences and disorders as a credit to satisfy her general education requirements. This class was the first time she considered pursuing speech therapy as a career path. She felt it combined her love of working with kids with her desire to pursue higher education, all while allowing for great flexibility and versatility in the position.

“I feel really lucky to be in a field that I love!”

Originally from Phoenix, AZ, Megan earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Family and Human Development from Arizona State University and a master’s degree from Northern Arizona University. When asked what theory or aspect she likes most about her profession, Megan stated that there are so many things within her profession which she loves. Specifically, she enjoys working with pediatrics and loves that she has the opportunity to be a part of a child’s and family’s life to truly make an impactful difference for them for years to come through the teaching and strategies she provides.

The majority of Megan’s experience has been in outpatient pediatrics and Early Intervention. She also has experience working in teletherapy with school-aged children. Megan’s expertise is in working with children with autism and Early Intervention and she enjoys working in both areas and continues to learn in the process.

Megan feels that she works in a giving profession and that clients and families give that right back to her in the way she learns from them. She has yet to embark on mentoring students, but has spoken with several friends and family members about the profession to spread the word about her field of work.

In her spare time, Megan loves to get outdoors whenever she can and spend time with those she loves. Her passions include traveling, working to become her best self, and helping others.

“Sunshine and water make my soul sing!”

Overall, she likes living in Las Vegas, NV and because she moved from Phoenix, the summer heat was not a major shock to which she needed to acclimate. She says, “living in Las Vegas is a lot like living in Arizona but with much more to do!” She loves that the snow at Mount Charleston is one hour away, a change in scenery at Red Rock or the Wetlands is thirty minutes away, and the city is so localized that she has the option to travel to a variety of places within half a day.

Megan feels that there is more opportunity for generalization and ensuring families really understand the goals and strategies to help their child through mobile therapy. She finds that you are able to understand and see more of what life is like in their home, so you can tailor activities to be as functional as possible for them. Her biggest challenge is scheduling, but finds that once it is set, it does not remain a challenge for long.

Thank you Megan for the wonderful work you do as a part of the Tilton’s Therapy team!
