Therapist Feature: Sandra Goins, PTA
Our featured team member at Tilton’s Therapy this month is Sandra Goins, PTA!
Sandra has worked in all aspects of the Physical Therapy field for over 11 years and a part of the Tilton’s Therapy team since 2019. Originally, Sandra was drawn to the profession through her love of sports. She thought she would stay in athletics and orthopedics, but once in school, Sandra began having children of her own and her interests shifted toward pediatrics.
At the University of Illinois at Chicago, Sandra received her Bachelor’s degree in Pre Physical Therapy and continued her education locally at Carrington College, earning her Physical Therapist Assistant degree. After starting a career in orthopedics and rehabilitation, Sandra loved her work but states that “there is nothing like caring for children and making a difference in their lives.”
In addition to her dedication to her profession, Sandra volunteers her time at local magnet schools and works with students in high school Physical Therapy programs. She also looks forward to mentoring a new therapist or student in the field. Sandra’s area of specialty is gait training. She is passionate about learning and taking courses on gait. Sandra loves getting children and adults back on their feet and walking functionally.
In her spare time, Sandra enjoys spending time with her husband of almost eight years and her four beautiful children, Dane (5), Matthew (3), and Annie and Alexandra (9 months). Her family enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, or going to sporting events. She is passionate about her children, but also has a lot of passion for “the Chicago Bears, Cubs, Bulls, and any and all sports.” Sandra is originally from Las Vegas and moved back to the Southwest from Chicago in 2009. She considers both to be home but particularly loves Las Vegas because her dad, sisters, nieces, and nephews all live there.
Sandra’s favorite part of mobile therapy is the opportunity to treat children in their natural environment. She says,
“children learn and grow better in a place they are comfortable, which makes home the best environment. Home is less sterile or scary than it can be in a clinic or rehab facility.”
Thank you, Sandra, for your dedication to helping empower individuals! We look forward to all you’ll accomplish in the future.
