Birth Defects Prevention

National Birth Defects Awareness Month Since the 1800s, the majority of births in the U.S. correlate with the seasons. The change of seasons brings cooler temperatures and shorter days, encouraging people to spend more time indoors. In the northern part of the states, there is an increase in births in the summer months (between June and July), and in the southern states, there is an increase in births in the fall months (between October and November).

National Birth Defects Prevention Awareness

The month of January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month. The National Birth Defects Prevention Network’s theme for their efforts in 2021 was “Best for You. Best for Baby.” Their goal is not to prevent all birth defects, as some are not preventable, but to encourage mothers to increase the likelihood of having a healthy baby simply by keeping healthy practices yourself during and before pregnancy. About one in 33 babies in the US is born with a birth defect.
