Child Abuse Prevention

On average, 4.3 million children are reported as victims of child abuse and neglect. According to Childhelp.org, child abuse is reported every ten seconds in the United States. Interestingly, the CDC reports that there are about 4 million births per year are the result of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Team Feature: Alyssa Carreon, PT

This month we are featuring a new member of the Tilton’s Therapy team, Alyssa Carreon, Physical Therapist!

Alyssa pronounces her name “Uh-l-eye-ssa” and not the usual “Uh-lih-ssa.” She was born and raised in the beautiful biggest little city of Reno. At the University of Nevada, Reno, Alyssa earned a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Science in 2018. She continued on to achieve her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington in 2022.

Team Feature: Francisco Segura, PT

Francisco earned a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Cal State LA in 2011 before continuing his education, achieving a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Touro University in 2014. When he began working in this profession, Francisco never thought he would be interested in working with children.

National Birth Defects Prevention Awareness

The month of January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month. The National Birth Defects Prevention Network’s theme for their efforts in 2021 was “Best for You. Best for Baby.” Their goal is not to prevent all birth defects, as some are not preventable, but to encourage mothers to increase the likelihood of having a healthy baby simply by keeping healthy practices yourself during and before pregnancy. About one in 33 babies in the US is born with a birth defect.

When asked what originally inspired or drew her to the profession, Ashlend stated, “I have always had a passion for helping others and working with children.”
